Bin colours
What goes in the purple bin?
Usually: Glass in many areas, or plastic and cans. A purple lid or box is also used for glass in some councils.
Purple bins and boxes are most often used for glass bottles and jars, which some councils keep apart from other recycling so it does not shatter into paper. Some councils use purple for plastic, cans and cartons instead.
Tips for your purple bin
- Glass should be rinsed; lids can usually go in with metal or plastic recycling.
- Window glass, mirrors and drinking glasses are not the same glass. They usually go to the tip.
