Bin colours
What goes in the brown bin?
Usually: Garden waste, or food and garden waste together. Brown caddies are a common colour for food waste.
Brown bins usually take garden waste, and in some areas food waste goes in with it. That combined food and garden bin is common in Northern Ireland and parts of England. Small brown caddies, often with a locking handle, are widely used for weekly food waste.
Tips for your brown bin
- Check whether your brown bin takes food as well as garden waste.
- Use the liners your council allows; some accept newspaper or paper bags only.
